J is a second-year doctoral student in Clinical Science under the mentorship of Dr. Bill Hetrick. J received their B.A. in Cognitive Science from Occidental College in 2017. Following undergrad, they spent three years working as a research coordinator for the department of Neurology at USC Keck School of Medicine, while also maintaining a post-baccalaureate research assistant position at UCLA’s Laboratory for Clinical and Affective Psychophysiology.

J is interested in integrating social psychological theory and neuroscientific techniques to take a racially- and culturally- informed approach to examining mental health phenomena (e.g., psychosis-spectrum psychopathology). Accordingly, their current research employs neuroimaging techniques (e.g., EEG) and psychometric evaluation to examine the following:

  1. Racial differences in self-reported paranoia
  2. Neurophysiological correlates of other-race facial processing

During their time at IU, J has received the following fellowship and awards:

  • National Institutes of Health (NIH) T32 Clinical Translational Science Training Fellowship
  • Sharon Stephens Brehm Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences Fellowship
  • National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (Honorable Mention)
  • Sharon Stephens Brehm Excellence in Research Award
  • Provost’s Travel Award for Women in Science
